Autumn trip to North Funen 2009

November 22nd, 2009 <-- by haumovie -->

As we drove through the beautiful hilly area towards Fyns Hoved – the most northern spot on Funen – the excitement grew in our car. The coasts of Funen should be the best trout coasts in Denmark – which probably was the reason for the excitement. It was Friday at 4 o’clock in the afternoon and with traffic at a minimum, it would be possible to get a few hours of fishing before sunset. When we arrived at the beach, the Jylland car was already there and 4 guys were spread evenly on the nearest coast. We quickly prepared the gear and walked by the foot of the cliffs to find the most suitable trout spots. The wind was fairly strong, but from the east, so the cliff provided shelter. As the sunset approached we intensified the fishing but when the darkness made the fishing impossible no one had had any contact with the trout.

When we arrived at the summerhouse the mood was still positive – looking forward to peanut soup, beer and BIRNE snaps. After dinner we watched a movie about seatrout fishing at Funen – it looked very easy to find and catch trout – and once again the enthusiasm grew.

Next morning someone (LuckyFish) made the mistake of waking us up one hour to early. This meant we were actually at the coast before sunrise. Again we spread out along the coast trying to find the best spots. After a short time Christian caught a small cod and shortly after one more cod was hooked and released. After that everything was quiet – no contact no fish. After three hours of fishing we decided to try another spot and drove to Midskov further south. The coast looked super but once again there was not much luck. Martin caught and released a trout just under the limit on the Bombarda with a fly. We continued to Langø and finished at Krogshavn, but still no success.

BIRNE saved the day once again.

Sunday morning we started out a little later than Saturday – also at Fyns Hoved. Some of us walked all the way to the most northern tip. After three throws, Lucky caught a small trout, but that was all for that day. At noon we went back and ended the trip.

When: 23-25 October 2009

Where: North Funen

Participants: Christian Hauschild, Martin, Rasmus, Kristian Hansted, Lasse, Philip, Søren and Kristian Løkke.

Weather: Fair wind from the east. Cloudy and rainy.

Catch: 3 cods and 3 trouts – all under the limit.

An outpost in the area

October 18th, 2009 <-- by lucky -->

Hello shrimps.

I am looking forward for the weekend. Just to tease your fishing instincts a bit, I can tell you that I did spend my “efterårsferie” in the area.

I went out one morning at “Mølleskoven” by “Hverring” - a  cold morning with windy weather, although i found a calm spot. I fished there for a couple of hours without any contact.

A few days later the wind was more calm and from the east so I went to “Langeø”. A really fine stretch of “trout-coast”. All the time I had the felling that there was something in the water. One time I did have a “follow trout”. I tried with combinations of “bombarda” and different flies without success and also normal spinning equipment, as Hugo’s with different colours and in combination with “ophænger” flies. Finally I did catch a small “Grønlænder” on a Mickey Finn in front of a brownish Hugo. As the single “scout” I did have contact with the enemy. I am sure that we will succeed in the war as the heavy cavalry join the battlefield next weekend.

Viel Grüsse. Kristian

Autumn trip to Funen

September 5th, 2009 <-- by haumovie -->

Baggyfish aka Søren Okkels is planning the trip this autumn and the 23-25 october, we will be going to North Funen to get some prime trout spots under our belt.

We’ll be on Fyns Hoved and you can get a feel for the area here.

Accommodation is sorted with this fine place. It’s so close to the coast, we don’t have to worry about who does the driving - we can walk to at least 3 great spots. Also, the early risers - luckyworm - can get up and go when they want.

Søren’s been kind enough to scan some pages from a book he has on fishing in the area, so if you wanna be prepared, have a look here.(pdf-773kb)

Also, you can read an article on 5 interesting spots in the area here. (danish online version of fishing mag)

There’s a significant amount of information about the area on the great interweb, so google around and see what you might find.

I expect to be doing a fair bit of flyfishing if the weather permits and perhaps spending the first evening doing a bit of the old tying.

So if any of you hunters out there should happen to shoot a rabbit or some bird (excluding waterfowl), then please gather some good flymaterials to share with a poor soul:)

Not the only learner on the block

July 10th, 2009 <-- by haumovie -->

It would appear that I’m not the only person in the world new to flyfishing and I say this like it was some sort of surprise.

Rob Beattie is also learning the art and recording his progress on this blog

I gather that I’m a bit further in my learning curve than Rob, but he’s certainly making the same mistakes I did last winter - only I was fortunate enough to catch a 1.5kg trout on my first outing. I don’t think I need to comment on that.;)

101 Golden Rules of Fishing - A Review

July 9th, 2009 <-- by haumovie -->

I was recently blessed with a prolonged visit from the in-laws. Don’t get me wrong, they are wonderful people who truly represent the most pleasant visitor you could ever imagine. They understand how to avoid invading your home, yet provide stimulating intelligent conversation and my mother in law makes the most wonderful food.

This seems to be inherent in people from Yorkshire and in that sense remind me of some people from West Jutland or even North Jutland. They are modest and maintain a critical approach to everything new - leaving them slightly hard to impress and yet provide the most amazing subtle and slightly sarcastic sense of humour.

And they bear gifts. Not only their personal presence, but in materialistic terms. Over the past 5 years, they have provided us with more or less every book we’ve read. Books are significantly cheaper in UK than in DK, sometimes up to 1/10th of the price! The books they bring tend to be paperback fiction and often crime by Scandinavian authors.

This summer they’d broken the mold and bought me a brand new hardcover book - about fishing! I suspect my mother in law to have excercised her amazing capacity for consideration for others, and scouted out a good book about fishing for me.

The book is 101 Golden Rules of Fishing by Rob Beattie

First catch this season

March 31st, 2009 <-- by lucky -->

 dsc02268_largeAfter a month with too much work I took a day off from work to go fishing by the coast. Christian Bjergager was able to join me. The plan was to go to the east coast of Sjælland, south of the mound of Mølleåen. But because of strong wind from south east we decided to go to the North coast of Sjælland – Vejby Strand. The sun was shining, the wind in the back and a high tide – perfect.

dsc02271_largeWe started close to each other, fishing the area close to the coast as we walked out. After ten minutes a fine see-trout took my white spoon, and after a short, but good fight, a blank trout was laying at the coast. About 45 centimeters of trout, in good condition.

What a nice start of this years trout season. Later Christian caught a fine, but small trout. We did have contact with more – one was about 60 centimeters. At one o’clock we went home.

Dates and accomodation sorted
